Thomas Bakalars, AIA, NCARB, started the firm in 1985. As an architect and urban planner he has worked on a remarkable range of projects, shaping a practice that reflects the diversity of his interests and his balanced approach to creative and business issues in architecture. A native of Wisconsin, he graduated with highest distinction from the University of Minnesota, with degrees in Architecture and Environmental Design, and then earned a Master of Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design. He is licensed to practice in Massachusetts and 10 other states. He is an accomplished sailor and a trained celestial navigator.
